I
was at The Station in Whitley Bay
on
Saturday 10th September, what a
nice big pub! no dancing room though and possibly a few pillars in the
line of site of the band if the place was stowed out, but a nice venue.
Anyway, I was there
to see Witchkraft,
while setting up, the lead guitarist got out three guitars, I thought
to
myself, that’s a bit excessive! but more on that later… I knew I
was in for a treat when the lead singer from Hocus
Pocus turned up to watch and the
guitarist
carried out a sound check by playing part of
Led Zep’s In My Time of Dying brilliant!
They are a four piece band with a 6 string bassist who appears to be
the
father of the drummer (I might be wrong here), a lead guitarist and
singer.
They played a good selection of songs from Jethro
Tull, The Cult, Free, AC/DC and Deep
Purple. Not much of the usual
stuff either, from Free
Mr Big and Fire & Water, that showed off the bassist
skills to a treat and The Mule was the highlight for the
drummer
to show off his talent. From AC/DC
we were treated to High Voltage
and Hell Ain’t a Bad Place to Be, fantastic! I enjoyed
watching
the singer; he has very animated facial expressions while singing and
is
the new boy of the band, but has a good voice and sang all the songs
very
well. Now to the finale… Deep
Purple’s
Black Night and Highway Star were superb. (I
wish I
had Col’s literary skill here!) They finished the night with David
Coverdale’s Mistreated and
now
we get to why he had three guitars… Coz he certainly mistreated that
last
guitar. Undoubtedly a piece of showmanship, but done extremely
well.
As Arnie would say it “I’ll be back”.
